Malachite, what a marvellous stone with its hypnotic, swirling mountain dreamscapes in light-toned and jungle green.
A relatively soft stone which makes it an ideal gemstone for carving ornaments whether they be to admire, adorn the ears or strung as beads to grace the neck.
This long strand of malachite beads shows a green marbling that is both playful and earthy and is a unique way to add green to an outfit. The beads graduate from 13-6mm and have been string with knots between each bead as how precious pearls would be strung, with a knot protecting and framing each bead.
Length:80cm
Weight:128g
Found in various locations around the world, historically, malachite has been used as pigment in painting and makeup, inlaid in architecture and idols and of course used in jewellery. The unique natural ‘marbling’ of colours create figurative shapes, concentric patterns and straight lines that display a range of shades of green. Often simulated using glass or plastic, natural malachite has a heavy feel and a silky lustre. A relatively soft stone, malachite is best used in necklaces, knotted beads and earrings. The striking layers make this an excellent addition to an outfit. Known to assist the wearer in times of change, malachite has also been associated with transformation.

Jewellery Maintenance at AGJ
At AGJ, our jewellery pieces are all handmade in small batches using 92.5 Sterling Silver (92.5–94% pure silver), unless stated otherwise. As each piece is crafted by hand, slight variations may occur, adding to the uniqueness of each item. Our pieces feature natural gemstones, each personally selected by in-house gemmologist Alexander for its unique beauty. These natural treasures are one-of-a-kind, featuring inclusions, stone lines, and colour variations that serve as the gemstone’s unique fingerprint and add to its charm.
Proper care is essential to maintain the beauty and longevity of your jewellery. Precious metals and gemstones have distinct qualities and limitations, so mindful wear is crucial. Over time, jewellery may naturally develop light tarnish influenced by body chemistry, climate, and exposure to certain chemicals. To restore its shine, gently polish with a soft cotton or silver cloth. For a deeper clean, use a soft toothbrush and mild dish soap to remove dirt and residue.
To preserve your jewellery:
• Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, such as chlorine in swimming pools.
• Remove jewellery before bathing to prevent soap, shampoo, or conditioner buildup.
• Avoid wearing pieces during exercise, strenuous activities, or household chores to reduce the risk of damage.
Certain pieces require special attention. Kundan jewellery, for instance, should never come into contact with liquids, and carved gemstone rings are particularly delicate, requiring extra care.
Necklaces, pearls, and gemstone bead strands are prone to residue buildup due to their proximity to an area they may come in contact with makeup, hair and face products as well as perspiration. Clean them regularly with a soft damp cloth and consider restringing bead strands every 12 months to maintain their integrity. Chains can be cleaned using a soft toothbrush and mild detergent.
The surface of a metal, known as its patina, evolves over time due to wear and environmental factors. This natural process is part of your jewellery's story, giving it a unique character. Patina can be maintained with proper care, including gentle cleaning and avoiding harsh chemicals.
Our Gemstones, unless described as “eye clean,” our gemstones may feature natural inclusions, stone lines, and variations in colour from piece to piece. These unique characteristics are a testament to their authenticity, much like the fingerprints of a gemstone. We carefully hand-select each stone for its individual beauty.
We embrace the natural transformation of jewellery over time. Fine scratches, patina, and subtle changes in appearance reflect a life well-loved and add depth and personal history to your cherished pieces—qualities celebrated across cultures for generations.
